Covent Garden’s pubs have outlasted most of what’s been built around them – some by centuries. These three all sit within a few minutes’ walk of the Piazza, and each has a genuinely old building behind the more recent fit-out.

Tucked down a narrow alley off Garrick Street, with a history stretching back to the 18th century and a claimed connection to Charles Dickens's time in London.

The Salisbury
A Grade II listed Victorian pub on St Martin's Lane, rebuilt around 1899 and still fitted out with its original etched glass and mahogany bar.

Marquess of Anglesey
There's been a pub on this Bow Street corner since 1682. The current name honours Henry Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey, who lost a leg commanding the cavalry at Waterloo - the pub was renamed in his honour shortly after.
